Eliot Coleman’s Four Season Farm in Harborside, Maine is a sight to behold in October. While most farms are getting reading to go to sleep for the winter, his farm is just gearing up for their winter season. We stopped at Four Season Farm in October of 2010, it was a gray rainy day, but that didn’t dampen our spirits. We were happy to walk around in the drizzle. We even chatted with Eliot for a while and Mr Chiots spent quite a while talking to one of the workers. Of course his gardens were all brimming with beautiful fall/winter...

Snowdrops at Sunset

Having snowdrops blooming in late winter has always been one of my garden dreams. Every year, however, I’d forget to order the bulbs in the fall and only remember when I noticed them blooming in the gardens around me in March. A few years ago I finally remembered to order them and I planted 500 of them in my Northeast Ohio garden. They started blooming in late February the following spring. This was one of the first blooms I noticed, it’s tiny delicate blooms perfectly bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun.

Bowl of Beauty

The ‘Bowl of Beauty’ peony is one of my favorites. With it’s dark pink outer petals and creamy white fringed interior, it’s worth having in any garden. Unlike most other peonies that flop over under the weight of their blooms, this delicate bloom stays upright.
